About Me

Thank you for visiting my profile.

Briefly, I have professional experience as a nurse a midwife and a mental health nurse and a nurse academic across a range of health and and academic settings. I have been working as a clinical supervisor for 15 years. I have also developed training in clinical supervision for a number of organisations including The University Of Melbourne and RMIT. As clinical supervisor I have specialised in  facilitating group supervision with clinicians from mental health, maternal and child health, midwifery, drug and alcohol services. The clinical supervision process that informs my practice is based on the Clinical Supervision Triangle  of reflection (Practitioner, Client/Issue and Relationship), and underpinned by the needs of the group or individual, their level of experience, and more importantly their ability to grow perspective  taking. I also employ a Balint style process that is  based on case presentation to the  supervision group and where the focus  is on the emotional aspects of their work and particularly the clinician-patient relationship. Evaluation is done informally at the completion of each session and more formally using a short survey at 6 monthly intervals.

Since COVID 19, my clinical supervision practice has had to pivot due to the negative impact of COVID on the occupational mental health of clinicians in order to provide a supportive coaching environment for staff to work to their strengths and develop resilience for managing compassion fatigue and burnout.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best wishes,

Finbar
