About Us

Australian Clinical Supervision Association Inc.

About Us

We are a small group with a big vision. We first came together at a face-to-face meeting, including video and teleconferencing across Australia which we held in Brisbane in July 2011. Our aim was to form an association of like-minded practitioners interested in promoting the unique practice of clinical supervision, as we believe that it clearly benefits not only practitioners and organisations, but also the people they serve.

The Australian Clinical Supervision Association became an incorporated association in July 2014 with a Management Committee who plays an active role in the direction of the organisation. We are registered with the Office of Fair Trading, Queensland as a not-for-profit association. Until 25 October 2019

Our Vision

To be a peak body for clinical supervision in Australia. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Our Core Values

  1. Integrity.
  2. Compassion.
  3. Respect.
  4. Courage.
  5. Openness.
  6. Collaboration.

We pursue our core values through articulating and promoting best practice clinical supervision to our members and the general community, in our relations with our members and each other, and through standing up for the unique practice of clinical supervision to ensure it thrives for our future generations.

Our Vision Statement

Our initial vision was to create the Australian Clinical Supervision Association Inc. We are well aware that there has been a growing diversity of and an increasing confusion over what purports to be clinical supervision in Australia. Many individuals and organisations have adopted and adapted clinical supervision to suit their own purposes; however, there has been no strong unified voice representing the heart of our shared art and craft. As the pioneers, Bernard and Goodyear wrote in their seminal work, Fundamentals of Clinical Supervision: ‘regardless of professional discipline, clinical supervision can be described in terms of core skills and processes’ (2004, p. 1). It was because of this lack of refinement that we arrived at our mandate to speak up in this country for those core skills and processes.

(Bernard JM. & Goodyear RK. (2004). Fundamentals of Clinical Supervision. Pearson Education, Boston, MA).

Our vision statement is clear and simple

  1. To create a way for those interested in the development of clinical supervision, either through theory, practice, research, governance or education, to associate together;
  2. To be the voice of the art and craft of clinical supervision in Australia;
  3. To welcome new clinical supervisors into the profession.

Our Mission

The objectives of our association are

  1. To promote the practice of clinical supervision as a process essential to the ongoing development of all practitioners.
  2. To educate and inform all practitioners on the beneficial effects of clinical supervision.
  3. To bring together clinical supervisors in a professional community across Australia to support and network with each other.
  4. To develop and maintain core skills, processes and standards of practice in clinical supervision.
